“A SOAP OPERA” - The Ironing Maidens

The Ironing Maidens, have been very busy for their brand new show “A Soap Opera” which first debuted at the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2020. The new show was inspired by the work of electronic music pioneer Daphne Oram and it is a unique blend of electronic music and narrative.  The renowned Tanks Arts Centre in Edge Hill hosted the creative development from November 2019, where The Ironing Maidens put together a diverse creative team with each member carefully chosen to bring their unique talent to the project. The show is an explosion of projections, choreography and costumes, a full dose of energy with a dash of Irony.
“A Soap Opera” is categorized as ‘gig theatre’. The pair will take audiences on a high energy spin-cycle into a world where irons make music, housewives revolt and daytime drama irons out the wrinkles of the patriarchy one song at a time.

As a photographer I felt honored to be part of this ground breaking project. Documenting it’s entire journey, from the beginning of the creative development weeks, to the final shows at Adelaide Fringe Festival and The Tanks Art Centre in Cairns. It was an incredible experience touring with them around Australia, being their professional “third wheel”. An amazing journey witnessing the sweat, anxiety, smiles and the success of these very motivated and talented ladies. I was so happy to be deeply involved capturing their expression as musicians and as actresses too! I feel absolutely inspired by this new creative industry platform, which combines all different mediums. Including photography.
