Every year the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair is committed to strengthening and celebrating culture, creating professional development opportunities for artists, and cultural exchange between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and visitors. This year has been a bit different as COVID-19 did not permit having a physical event, which has been hosted in Cairns for the last 7 years and pushed the team to create an online platform to showcase all the amazing artists, designers and performers.
Cristina Bevilacqua was gratefully tasked with taking the photos of the fashion collections with her pop-up studio set up at the Tanks Art Centre.
Where Country is the catwalk, and collections are inspired by the theme of Water, whilst delivering a Climate Change message, this is a visual narrative through sustainable fashion, wearable art/design and a fusion of Contemporary & Cultural Dance.
CIAF 2020 Fashion Showcase 'Water is Sacred' was curated by Simone Arnol and Bernard Singleton, choreographed by Hans Ahwang.
